Carson Tahoe Health is proud to announce the addition of direct anterior (DA) hip replacement surgery to its surgical capabilities, allowing patients the option for a minimally-invasive procedure with a quick recovery time. Anterior hip replacement, an alternative to traditional approaches, is performed through a small incision made at the front of the hip. With this approach, the surgeon enters the hip between rather than cutting through muscles, which can minimize tissue injury and improve postoperative rehabilitation time. Multiple studies have now shown that recovery is quicker with the direct anterior approach, and in some instances, allows patients to discharge home the day of surgery. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center has achieved a 4-star rating for an acute care hospital, out-ranking the national average of 3-stars. An upward movement in this ranking scale is not an easy achievement as the data behind these star ratings lag anywhere from 6 to 18 months behind and the core measures are consistently changing. Carson Tahoe is one of the highest-ranked acute-care hospitals in Nevada. CMS annually releases ratings to objectively compare the quality of care for over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the nation. Carson Tahoe Health is pleased to announce the generous multi-year pledge of $800,000, by the Mallory Foundation to allow for expansion of Carson Tahoe’s Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center, more than doubling the center’s capacity for treatment. Since opening in January 2017, the Carson Tahoe Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center (Mallory) has served as a safety net for the community, through immediate psychiatric help and paving a pathway for patients’ recovery. Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) and the Carson Tahoe Breast Center have recently been recognized by the National Cancer Institute for Outstanding Contributions in Oncology Research. The award comes on the heels of a prestigious clinical trial, the Tomosynthesis Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial (TMIST), for which recruitment began in August 2017. Led by Dr. Kinsey Pillsbury, Medical Director at Carson Tahoe Breast Center, this innovative program was one of just 131 trials worldwide and the only in Nevada.
