Carson Tahoe Health & Carson Rotary Celebrate Labyrinth Anniversary & Community Partnership

Today marks 13 years since the opening of the outdoor Labyrinth located at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The unique space was made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City. Dr. Lorrel Toft named to cardiovascular clinical faculty & appointed in partnership between UNR Med and Carson Tahoe Health

Following a collaborative recruitment between the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Carson Tahoe Health, Lorrel Toft, M.D., F.A.C.C., a cardiovascular critical care physician and researcher, has been recruited as an associate professor for UNR Med’s Department of Internal Medicine as well as a cardiologist on staff with Carson Tahoe Health. Dr. Toft’s appointment comes as both healthcare partners collaborate to improve patient care and community well-being, as well as increase research opportunities for health professionals and scientists. In her new roles, Toft will utilize her experience in clinical, educational and research settings while expanding community cardiac care. Carson Tahoe Health Creates Cancer Triage Line

Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, an affiliate of Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah recently added a nurse triage line to provide symptom management to established patients. The nurse triage line coordinates care between the patient, nurses, and physicians at the Cancer Center. “This allows us to support the patients and their caregivers, assess patient concerns over the phone, reduce unnecessary emergency department visits, and even guide patients towards seeking proper medical attention,” said Maria Sampang RN, OCN and AIC Nurse Manager at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. Uncomfortable symptoms can occur both during and after chemotherapy treatment and it is important to have these symptoms assessed and evaluated by an oncology team so they do not worsen.
