Carson Tahoe Health is proud to welcome Lisa “Michelle” Abitz, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), to our behavioral health team.
Michelle brings 16 years of diverse nursing experience, spanning pediatrics, perinatal care, neuro/orthopedic unit, mental health, and substance use disorders. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing – PMHNP at MSOE University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was recognized as a Nursing Honor Society Honoree for her academic excellence.
Her clinical experience includes providing residential inpatient care for mental health, detox, and addiction treatment. She also conducts psychiatric evaluations, manages medications, and delivers behavioral therapy for patients. As a result, Michelle brings a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to care.
Michelle has experience caring for diverse populations. These include pediatrics, adolescents, LGBTQ+ individuals, geriatric patients, and unhoused individuals. Many of these patients have complex mental health conditions or substance use disorders.
Currently, Michelle provides care at Carson Tahoe Health’s Youth Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). This unit is designed for short-term stays and supports youth ages 12–17. The program focuses on stabilization within 24 hours through continuous therapeutic support, family involvement, and access to community resources.
Outside of work, Michelle enjoys spending time with family. She also participates in outdoor activities such as hiking, snow skiing, and spending time at the lake. In addition, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and crafting.
