Welcoming Dr. Jay Takata, Gastroenterologist, to Carson Tahoe Health

Carson Tahoe Health is proud to welcome Jay Takata, MD, a highly experienced Gastroenterologist (GI), to our growing team of GI specialists.

Dr. Takata brings more than 30 years of medical experience and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. Board-certified in Gastroenterology, he has served in diverse healthcare settings—from military medical centers to university-affiliated hospitals and private practice.  His expertise includes diagnostic and therapeutic EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, endoscopy, and esophageal manometry.

Dr. Takata earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis AFB, in California and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, in Texas.

Throughout his career, Dr. Takata has held key clinical and teaching positions, including serving as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, Gastroenterology, at the University of Texas Health East Texas.

Inspired by the challenge and reward of caring for patients with both acute, life-threatening conditions and chronic, debilitating diseases, Dr. Takata approaches each patient with the same care and respect he would want for his own family. Compassion, skill, and collaboration guide every aspect of his practice.

Now settled in Northern Nevada, Dr. Takata is enjoying the area’s active, outdoor lifestyle. In his free time, he stays active through swimming, hiking, biking, and skiing—activities that align perfectly with the region’s natural beauty and year-round recreation.

Carson Tahoe Health is honored to have Dr. Takata on our team and to offer his advanced gastroenterology expertise to patients throughout our region.
