At our hospital, we believe some of the best solutions start with heart, creativity, and a little bit of tape.
Training for specialized roles in Women’s & Children’s, like OB techs, can be especially challenging — particularly when experience is hard to come by. That’s why we’ve put extra focus into developing hands-on onboarding and education programs to support our new hires. And sometimes, innovation comes from the team itself.
Enter Christine Leist, one of our highly engaged OB techs (and soon-to-be new grad RN!). Seeing a need for more realistic training, Christine took matters into her own hands — literally. With nothing more than supply wrappers, expired equipment, paper, and a generous amount of tape, Christine built an incredibly detailed mock C-section model for training new team members.
From the outer skin to the uterus — and yes, even a paper baby complete with a tape umbilical cord — Christine’s creation is a testament to ingenuity and passion for patient care. The realistic model offers new OB techs an immersive, hands-on learning experience that brings theory to life and helps build confidence before they ever step into the OR.
Pictured above is Christine (center), orienting OB tech Julie Brehm (left), and new OB tech Marisol Munoz (right). Thanks to her initiative and dedication, our team continues to grow stronger, together.
Christine’s contribution is just one example of the many ways our staff step up to support one another and ensure our patients receive the best care possible. We are proud to celebrate this spirit of teamwork and excellence that runs through every corner of our hospital.
