Head-to-Toe Benefits Are Why You Should Give Yoga a Try

Yoga is a full mind-body practice that traces back to ancient India. In recent years, yoga enthusiasts around the world have adapted the activity to fit their personal health goals. Some people enjoy improving their physical strength by holding certain poses, while others appreciate the mental and spiritual aspects of the practice. Before you label yoga as “not really exercise” or “too zen,” learn how the practice could improve your overall well-being.

Want to try yoga but don’t know where to start? Begin by incorporating small yoga breaks into your daily routine. All you need is a few minutes of free time and a yoga mat.

  • Make space. Designate a quiet, uncluttered space in your home for your sessions. Make it special with a new coat of paint or art.
  • Schedule time during the day. Maybe you would benefit most from a 15-minute session as a mid-day work break. Or, you can try yoga before bed to promote relaxation.
  • Test the waters first. Don’t jump right in to complicated moves and advanced flows. Search for a few beginner poses and listen to what your body needs that day.
  • Expand your skill set with guided classes. After you’ve become comfortable listening to you body, challenge yourself by taking a structured class or following a set of sequences like the Sun Salutation.

Carson Tahoe Health & Wellness Institute offers yoga classes ranging from beginner to advanced levels. The cost is $5 per session, or $40 for 10 classes. Online and in-person classes are available. To join a class, visit www.carsontahoe.com/calendar, or call (775) 445-7337.
