Welcome Dr. Tyler Peterson, DO – Family Medicine Physician

Carson Tahoe Health is excited to welcome Dr. Tyler Peterson, D.O., to our family medicine team. Dr. Peterson brings a compassionate, evidence-based approach to care, treating patients ages 12 and up with a broad focus that includes women’s and men’s health, adolescent and geriatric care, sports medicine, aesthetics and anti-aging, and weight management.

Originally inspired by his aunt, also a family physician, Dr. Peterson began his journey in medicine by working in her clinic as a young adult. “I love the science and I enjoy working with people,” he shares. That early experience helped shape his calling and led him to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro University, Nevada, followed by a family medicine residency at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Dr. Peterson is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFM). He describes his patient care philosophy as “evidence-based and compassionate,” with an emphasis on meeting patients where they are and empowering them through education and shared decision-making.

Throughout his medical journey, Dr. Peterson is grateful for the mentors who helped shape his practice. He thanks his aunt, Dr. Patricia Levan, for her unwavering belief and compassion; Dr. James Anthony, his medical director in residency, for instilling the importance of evidence-based practice; and the team at the former Barton Family Medicine in South Lake Tahoe for their trust and guidance.

“I am excited to take what I have learned along my path and to continue providing care to the region,” he says. “Thank you to Carson Tahoe for giving me the opportunity to return to Nevada.”

Dr. Peterson is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians (NAFP), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP).

When he’s not caring for patients, you’ll likely find Dr. Peterson exploring the outdoors. He enjoys skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, and camping. A self-proclaimed fan of good stories, he’s currently reading book 7 of The Wheel of Time series after finishing The Mistborn Series. He also enjoys movies, TV, crocheting, and knitting. His constant companion? A 2.5-year-old chocolate lab named Ragnar, who’s always ready for the next adventure.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Peterson to Carson Tahoe!
