Compassion Beyond Measure: DAISY Award Winner Lindsey Wolken

We are honored to recognize Lindsey Wolken, RN, as a DAISY Award recipient. Lindsey was nominated by the wife of a patient who experienced a massive heart attack and critical complications—an unimaginably difficult time for their entire family.

On February 22, Jason was rushed by ambulance from Stagecoach to Carson Tahoe after suffering a massive heart attack. He coded twice on the way to the hospital and twice more in the ER. Thanks to emergency intervention and a stent procedure, Jason’s life was saved. That night, while he remained in a medically induced coma in the ICU, his wife left the hospital with the reassurance that he was in good hands.

Those hands belonged to Lindsey.

In her heartfelt nomination, Jason’s wife shared how Lindsey’s compassion went far beyond medical care. When Lindsey received the message that Jason’s wife wanted to be present the next morning, she didn’t just note it—she called her directly at 7:30 p.m. to reassure her he was in great hands. Lindsey explained that Jason was stable, doing well, and encouraged her to call anytime for updates. With patience and kindness, Lindsey offered comfort and peace of mind that night, allowing Jason’s wife to rest for the first time.

The following night, Lindsey continued to go above and beyond. She spent time with Jason and his wife, explaining every detail—his medicines, bloodwork, treatments, and progress. She even arranged for Jason’s wife to stay overnight beside him in a cardio chair so they could be together.

Though her work is clinical, Lindsey’s care is deeply human. She not only saved Jason’s life but also gave his wife and family the compassion, comfort, and hope they needed most.

Congratulations, Lindsey, on receiving the DAISY Award. Thank you for exemplifying the very heart of nursing through your extraordinary care.
