Greg McMenamy, a dedicated nurse at Carson Tahoe, has been honored as the 2025 Direct Patient Care Nurse of the Year by the Nevada Hospital Association. Described by colleagues as a mentor, leader, and caregiver, Greg’s work is defined by innovative problem-solving and extraordinary compassion.
Innovating Patient Care
Greg’s impact on clinical practice has been transformative, particularly for patients with implanted devices.
- Elevating Device Care: Greg took the initiative to create a dedicated program and develop comprehensive training modules to ensure all patients receive the same high level of care, regardless of which staff member they see.
- Solving the MRI Challenge: He noticed a crucial care gap when patients with devices had their MRI appointments canceled. Collaborating with the MRI team, Greg helped create a new workflow, personally going to MRI every Tuesday afternoon to ensure these essential procedures could be completed.
Compassion Without Limits
What truly distinguishes Greg is his profound commitment to patient advocacy, often going beyond the call of duty.
- Hospice Home Visits: In a powerful example of selflessness, Greg goes to the homes of hospice patients (without being directed to) to turn off their defibrillators. This difficult but necessary service respects their end-of-life wishes.
- Advocate on the Front Lines: He frequently visits patients’ homes to adjust therapies and is described as being “very, very quick to be a patient advocate and argue for what is best for that patient.”
A Natural-Born Teacher
Greg is not only a clinical expert but also a passionate mentor. Colleagues note he “does the job of three people” and constantly challenges his peers by asking “deep intellectual questions”, fostering an environment where everyone can learn and grow.
His dedication to nursing and relentless focus on the patient makes Greg McMenamy a profoundly deserving winner. Congratulations to the 2025 Nurse of the Year!
