Carson Tahoe Health hosted a Diabetes Health Fair on Saturday, November 8, 2025. This free event served to educate, empower, and provide attendees with tools to either manage existing diabetes or take preventive steps to avoid developing the disease.
Attendees took the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and educational sessions that were informative and enjoyable.

Some highlights of the event included:
- Expert Lectures:
Many participants attended sessions from a presentation series led by local endocrinologists. These specialists shared the latest advancements in diabetes care and discussed the role of medications and lifestyle in managing or preventing diabetes. - Interactive Stations:
Several booths were set up to showcase the newest technologies and approaches to diabetes care, including blood glucose monitoring devices and insulin pumps. Additionally, heart health, mental wellness, physical activity, and nutrition experts provided valuable guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Annual vaccinations were also encouraged through offering free flu shots. - Fun Activities and Giveaways:
Attendees were able to enjoy samples of healthy recipes and learn about creating a more healthful home food environment. Some participants tested their knowledge of nutrition and won prizes in a game of Nutrition Jeopardy. And, this year, we were fortunate to have a local musician volunteer to provide background music with a Pahu drum, ukelele, and vocals. At the end of the fair, we awarded gift bags to three raffle winners.

The Diabetes Health Fair served as a comprehensive venue for participants to explore crucial strategies for prevention of long-term complications of diabetes and learn how to incorporate them into their daily routine.
Carson Tahoe Health remains deeply committed to the well-being of the community, and our efforts extend far beyond the Diabetes Health Fair. To provide continued support, we offer monthly diabetes support groups where participants can share their experiences, ask questions, and receive encouragement from both peers and healthcare providers. These meetings take place on the second Wednesday of each month at the Carson City Senior Center from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and on the third Wednesday of the month at the Dayton Medical Center during the same time.
With a physician referral, we also offer individualized Diabetes Self-Management Education & Training and Group Diabetes Workshops through our Diabetes Education and Nutrition Counseling Clinic.

In addition, Carson Tahoe Health offers a year-long Diabetes Prevention Program that has been shown to reduce the risk of developing diabetes by more than 50%. You may be eligible to join if you are 18 years or older and have a prediabetes diagnosis.
