Carson Tahoe Raises the Flag for Donate Life Month

Honoring Donors, Celebrating Life, and Letting Life Sing

April 8, 2025 – Carson City, NV — In a moving tribute held earlier this week, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center proudly raised the Donate Life flag, honoring the selfless individuals and families who have given the ultimate gift—organ, eye, and tissue donation.

As part of National Donate Life Month, Carson Tahoe joins hospitals and organizations nationwide in raising awareness about the power of donation. This year’s theme, “Let Life Sing,” celebrates the harmony and hope made possible by those who choose to give life to others.

In 2024, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center played a critical role in facilitating 15 life-saving organ transplants, while also improving the lives of countless others through tissue and eye donation. These acts of generosity offered new beginnings for patients in need and comfort to families who found meaning in their loss.

Working closely with Donor Network West, the federally designated organ procurement organization for Northern Nevada and Northern California, the hospital ensures that every donor’s wishes are honored with dignity and care. According to Donor Network West, more than 100,000 people in the U.S. are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

“At Donor Network West, we are grateful for the unwavering support of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in advancing the mission of organ and tissue donation,” said Dr. Janice Whaley, President and CEO of Donor Network West. “Each donation represents a story of hope, a family’s legacy, and a life transformed.”

To honor the occasion, a heartfelt poem titled “The Gift” was shared during the flag-raising ceremony, reflecting the spirit and impact of donation:

The Gift
Through mighty love, the beat remains.
In hearts thought lost, life sustains.

A profound offering, a sacred grace,
Forever remembered in time and space.

With their ultimate gift, hope is reborn,
A breath, a smile, a brand-new morn.

Farewells still echo, yet spirits stay.
We marvel in wonder as they pave our way.

We raise this flag with hearts now freed,
By those who’ve bestowed their lifesaving deed.

Each thread, a promise, strong and bright,
We humbly honor those shining their light.

As we reflect on these extraordinary gifts, Carson Tahoe encourages everyone to consider registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. One person can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of 75 others through donation.
