Carson Tahoe Health Leads Innovation with VARIPULSE™ PFA Technology Launch

Carson City, Nevada – Carson Tahoe Health has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in cardiovascular care, becoming the first hospital in Northern Nevada to launch the VARIPULSE™ PFA (Pulsed Field Ablation) Catheter with the TRUPULSE™ Generator from Johnson & Johnson. This achievement positions the hospital as a leader in advanced cardiac electrophysiology, potentially making it the only facility on the entire West Coast outside of clinical trial sites to offer this revolutionary technology.

The VARIPULSE platform represents a significant advancement in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), seamlessly integrating with the CARTO 3 Mapping System to deliver enhanced precision and efficiency in cardiac procedures. Dr. Jeffrey Turner and the exceptional electrophysiology (EP) team at Carson Tahoe Health successfully completed the first procedures using this innovative technology.

Part of a Broader Innovation Strategy

The VARIPULSE launch represents just the latest in a series of cardiovascular technology firsts for Carson Tahoe Health over the past year, demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to bringing cutting-edge treatments to Northern Nevada patients:

Agent DCB Launch (June 2024): Carson Tahoe became the first and only hospital in Nevada, and across the West Coast excluding trial sites, to offer this advanced drug-coated balloon technology.

First Aveir AR Leadless Pacemaker (February 2025): The hospital made history by implanting the first device of its kind in Northern Nevada, performed by Dr. Ho, representing a significant advancement in pacemaker technology.

Farapulse PFA System (October 2024): Carson Tahoe was among the first facilities in the region to introduce Boston Scientific’s pulsed field ablation system, expanding treatment options for patients with atrial fibrillation.

OPAL EP Mapping System (Coming July 2025): The hospital is preparing to become the first location to implement Boston Scientific’s OPAL electrophysiology mapping system, further enhancing diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Advancing Patient Care Through Innovation

These technological advances represent more than just medical milestones—they translate to improved outcomes for patients throughout Northern Nevada and the surrounding region. By consistently introducing the latest cardiovascular technologies, Carson Tahoe Health ensures that patients have access to the most advanced treatment options without needing to travel to major metropolitan areas.

The hospital’s commitment to innovation in cardiovascular care reflects its broader mission to serve as a regional leader in healthcare excellence, bringing world-class medical technology and expertise to the communities it serves.

For patients and referring physicians, these advances mean access to the most current and effective treatments for complex cardiac conditions, delivered by a team recognized for clinical excellence and technological innovation.
