Carson City hospital recognized for providing exceptional care by the “Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality”
Carson Tahoe Health’s Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) has been granted a 3-year accreditation by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ), and the LTACH is now officially designated as Nevada’s only CIHQ “Center of Excellence.”
The accreditation process is voluntary and includes a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey administered by CIHQ. Accreditation is given only to hospitals that enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs and measuring the quality of the care they deliver against national standards.
Being deemed a “Center of Excellence” is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a CIHQ accredited healthcare organization. Obtaining this prestigious designation means the LTACH combines top-notch clinical care with exceptional patient support programs and the best possible outcomes.
“Although accreditation for the LTACH is not required at this time, as a forward-thinking organization, we decided to be proactive by pursuing the accreditation process early,” said Kelly Wilcher, CEO of the LTACH. “Receiving the ‘Center of Excellence’ designation reflects our commitment to providing the highest level of quality healthcare to our community.”
Carson Tahoe’s award-winning, 29-bed LTACH provides continuing treatment to patients with clinically complex medical conditions who need acute care for an extended period of time – usually 20-30 days. These patients are typically discharged from the intensive care unit at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and require a higher level of care that isn’t offered by a rehabilitation center, skilled nursing facility, or at home. As a niche service within the Carson Tahoe Health system, the LTACH provides extended support to the Regional Medical Center and fills a key role in the continuum of care.
“The Carson Tahoe Long-Term Acute Care Hospital is dedicated to providing personalized, compassionate care in a tranquil healing environment,” added Wilcher. “We feel honored to have received the prestigious CIHQ accreditation and to be designated as the only ‘Center of Excellence’ in the state.”
Established in 1999, CIHQ is a private organization dedicated to helping hospitals improve the quality of care rendered in their communities. CIHQ recognizes healthcare providers that demonstrate an unparalleled dedication and expertise to consistently deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care. CIHQ is approved by the Center for Medicare Services (CMS) to deem hospitals as meeting federal Conditions of Participation in Medicare.
