On July 12, Carson Tahoe Health, community members, and music legends came together for an unforgettable evening celebrating the life and legacy of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musician Dave Mason.

The event marked the dedication of SOUND IDEAS, Carson Tahoe Health’s newest Vehicle of Change. The mobile music and podcast studio helps young people discover their voice through creativity, storytelling, and self-expression. Dedicated in Dave’s honor, the vehicle will bring his legacy to schools and communities across Northern Nevada. It helps children build confidence, resilience, and healthy coping skills through prevention-focused mental health programming.

The celebration began with a public dedication ceremony recognizing Dave as Carson Tahoe Health’s inaugural Champion of Creativity. Friends, family, community leaders, healthcare professionals, and music industry icons gathered to honor a man whose music inspired generations. They also celebrated his belief in the power of creativity to change lives.

Among the day’s most memorable moments were heartfelt reflections from longtime friends Pat Simmons and Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers. They spoke about Dave’s passion for helping others discover their unique gifts.

The ceremony also celebrated the launch of the Dave Mason Legacy Fund. The fund has already raised more than $26,000 to support Carson Tahoe Health’s Healing Our Kids & Community initiative and its growing fleet of Vehicles of Change.

The evening concluded with a sold-out tribute concert featuring members of Dave Mason’s touring band and special guests. The event ended with a moving performance of Dave’s iconic hit, “Feelin’ Alright.” As the audience rose to sing along, the moment became a powerful reminder of Dave’s lasting legacy. His impact extends far beyond music. It lives on through every young person who will find confidence, connection, and hope through the programs his generosity now supports.

At Carson Tahoe Health, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover their strengths and know they matter. Through Healing Our Kids & Community, the Vehicles of Change, and the Dave Mason Legacy Fund, that vision continues to grow—one child, one community, and one song at a time.
