Spreading Sunshine: Dayleen Weaver Receives Sunflower Award for Compassionate Innovation

We are proud to recognize Dayleen Weaver from the Minden Emergency Department as a recipient of the Sunflower Award, an honor that celebrates extraordinary staff members from all disciplines who go above and beyond to support patients and their families during their healthcare journey. Nominated by peers, patients, families, and physician partners, Sunflower Award recipients embody the heart of healing, and Dayleen’s story is a shining example.

In the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of the ER, Dayleen saw a recurring need: patients and visitors arriving without essential clothing during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. With compassion and ingenuity, she created Dayleen’s Closet, a warm and welcoming resource offering clean, gently used clothing to those in need.

From babies needing onesies to adults in need of warm jackets or fresh clothes, Dayleen’s Closet has become a beacon of comfort. She personally organizes and maintains the space, carefully sorting every donation to ensure quality, cleanliness, and accessibility. Though supported by a few dedicated volunteers, it’s Dayleen’s tireless dedication and heartfelt leadership that sustain this vital resource.

Whether someone needs a coat on a cold night or a clean outfit after an unexpected hospital visit, Dayleen’s Closet provides more than just clothing—it offers dignity, kindness, and a sense of being cared for. The impact of her initiative is profound, creating a ripple of compassion throughout the department and community.

Dayleen’s unwavering commitment to meeting people’s needs, both physical and emotional, makes her an outstanding Sunflower Award honoree. Her work reflects the very best of who we are and what we strive to be.

Congratulations, Dayleen, and thank you for the light you bring to those around you.
