Carson Tahoe Health proudly honors Alba Alegria of our Housekeeping team with the Sunflower Award. This recognition celebrates an extraordinary act of kindness that brought comfort and joy to a patient during her hospital stay.
After learning that the patient was spending her birthday in the hospital, Alba stepped in to make the day special. The patient was feeling sad about missing the birthday celebration. Alba gathered team members to sing “Happy Birthday” and purchased fresh flowers. She also provided a gift card so the patient could enjoy a birthday meal after leaving the hospital.
Alba’s thoughtful gesture immediately lifted the patient’s spirits and reminded her that she was seen, celebrated, and surrounded by people who cared. What may have seemed like a simple act became a meaningful part of the patient’s healing experience.
