Dr. Burton Tabaac Publishes New Research on Integrative Approaches to Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery

Dr. Burton Tabaac, neurologist at Carson Tahoe Health

Carson Tahoe Health neurologist Dr. Burton Tabaac is helping advance the conversation around traumatic brain injury recovery through newly published research in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology. The case series explores clinical observations from three patients experiencing persistent symptoms following traumatic brain injury or hypoxic brain injury and examines outcomes associated with an integrative treatment approach that combined iboga-containing microdosing protocols with psychotherapy and supportive care.

For many patients, symptoms such as chronic headaches, brain fog, fatigue, mood changes, sleep disruption, and cognitive challenges can persist long after the initial injury. Dr. Tabaac’s research highlights the need for continued exploration of innovative therapies that may support recovery when conventional treatment options provide limited relief. The publication presents preliminary findings and emphasizes the importance of further controlled research to better understand potential treatment pathways for individuals living with prolonged post-concussive symptoms.

As both a neurologist at Carson Tahoe Health and a faculty member at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Dr. Tabaac remains committed to advancing neurological care through research, education, and patient-centered innovation. His work reflects Carson Tahoe’s ongoing dedication to improving outcomes and expanding knowledge in areas that have the potential to positively impact the lives of patients and families throughout our region.
