A new community trail will be completed June 2, on National Trail’s Day. Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space’s new 1.1 mile hiking/running/mountain biking trail, with trailhead space donated by Carson Tahoe Health, will run from the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center/Foothill Garden to Lakeview Estates. This Saturday, volunteers will be completing The Foothill Trail, with its new trailhead just behind the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, next to the Foothill Garden.
The Foothill Trail is a result of Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space’s partnerships with several groups, including; Carson Tahoe Health; The Greenhouse Project; Northern Nevada Children’s Home; NDOT; and Muscle Powered.
“Over the years, the Carson Tahoe Wellness Walk has become a beacon for local outdoor enthusiasts,” said Diane Rush, Carson Tahoe Health’s Director of Marketing and Public Information. “Now with the new Foothill Trail, we are able to connect the Carson Tahoe campus to other areas of the community, and continue to promote the importance of mind and body wellness.”
Additionally, Carson Tahoe will open its Serenity Trail, which is a 0.6-mile trail that provides gorgeous views of the Sierra Nevada, benches to sit, and aromatic plants to promote relaxation and meditation. Many studies indicate that immersion in nature can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and promote healing, which is why Carson Tahoe has worked to establish this outdoor walk. This trail, part of the larger existing Wellness Walk throughout the Carson Tahoe campus, is handicap accessible and perfect for patients, family, and community members, who want to experience a tranquil area in which to reflect and relax.
On-site media opportunities will be available at Trails Day on June 2 from 8 AM – Noon, and Carson Tahoe Health is encouraging participants to use the hashtag #HikeForYourHealth on all social media platforms.
