Carson Valley Quilt Guild Donates Handmade Quilt to First Baby Born on National Quilting Day
To commemorate National Quilting Day Saturday, March 19, 2022 The Carson Valley Quilt Guild worked together to create a handmade quilt, special for the first baby born that day at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Newborn baby boy Luke Cooley, born at 2:09 a.m., weighing 6 lbs. and 13 oz. was the lucky recipient of the multi-colored quilt.
Luke’s parents, Kassidy and Kelly Cooley, were happy to receive the basket and are enjoying embracing their little one in the handmade blanket.
The Carson Valley Quilt Guild comprised of about 125 members, celebrated National Quilting Day in a number of ways including the traditional “bed turning” at the Museum in Gardnerville. It is here where quilters stack their quilts on top of each other on a bed and then “turn” them one by one, showing off their handiwork and sharing the story behind each one.
The non-profit is dedicated to donating to charitable organizations across our area, ranging from helping children and adults in need, to donating quilts for local people facing cancer at Carson Tahoe Health’s Cancer Center. This is the fourth year of collaborating with the guild.
“Personally speaking,” said Carson Valley Quilt Guild member Lori Ross. “If you have the talent or the time to better the community, why not? It’s the right thing to do. I’m in the ‘random acts of kindness business.’”
As for their most recent gift to Carson Tahoe Health on National Quilting Day, “It’s so fun to give to the first baby born!”
